RWA - Jerry Can
In Rwanda, notwithstanding the huge accomplishments the country has performed since the Genocide that happened in 1994, the supply of clean water is still an issue. According to the latest Government Report, 9.4% of people have clean water access in their homes and 39% of people have to walk more than 15 minutes to reach a clean water source.
Seeing people carrying their yellow jerry can and going to fetch water from a water pump or well is a common sight even in the capital, Kigali.
In these images mostly kids are collecting water from the water pump, often using smaller jerry cans commensurate to their strength and often pumping for others, probably neighbours. When the photos were shot it was school holidays, otherwise women are the ones that provide water for the family. And merchants too collect water that they resell in the neighborhoods for about 100 (0,10€) francs per jerry can of 20 liters.
